I spent Monday glued to the BBC, Reuters, Aljazeera, and Haaretz broadcasts from Gaza. By Tuesday morning we knew that 58 Palestinian demonstrators had been killed by Israeli troops, while a staggering 2,700 had been wounded, including one infant who died from tear gas inhalation.
The Philadelphia Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Philadelphia) today condemned the Israeli massacre of dozens of Palestinian civilians protesting both the unilateral move of the US embassy to Jerusalem and the 70th anniversary of “The Nakba,” the expulsion by Israel of hundreds of thousands of Arabs out of Palestine during the 1948-49 Arab-Israeli war.
CAIR-PA has joined in the fight to combat police brutality in its endeavors to pursue justice. Our office presently represents a man wrongfully detained by local law enforcement for a period of ten days. The day before officers detained him, he conversed with a coworker about being a proud Muslim, among other things. That coworker reported him to local law enforcement as a potential terror threat. The gentleman was subsequently detained for a period of ten days, nine of which in solitary confinement, though never formally charged with any crime.

Some might have questionable immigration status; others have had unfavorable encounters with law enforcement or fear retaliation if they were to speak out. "Many are fearful of coming forward," Welbeck said. "Even with the increased reports we receive, I would argue it's only a fraction of what is happening across the state and country."

Scores of American Muslims, together with their Jewish and Muslim allies, descended on Harrisburg on Tuesday, March 17, for the Third Annual Muslim Capitol Day (MCD III) in Harrisburg, PA. Muslim Capitol Day was co-sponsored by CAIR-Pennsylvania and Emgage Pennsylvania, and two Philadelphia mosques: Masjidullah and Philadelphia Masjid. Close to 100 Muslim Americans held 35 meetings with Pennsylvania legislators and government officials.?
The leadership of the Pennsylvania Muslim community and their non-Muslim allies from the Jewish and Christian communities will participate in the Third Annual Muslim Capitol Day (MCD) at the State Capitol Building in Harrisburg. On Tuesday, April 17, 2018, over 100 MCD participants will visit the offices of their elected state senators and representatives.
In the midst of a steep increase in anti-Muslim hate crimes and the bullying of Muslim students in Pennsylvania and across the country, Muslims from around the state will be coming to Harrisburg for the Third Annual Muslim Capitol Day on April 17, 2018.
