As CAIR-Philadelphia’s work expands to meet the new challenges our communities face, we are mindful that not everyone can join our events. But no worries, our new “Catch Up with CAIR-Philly” newsletter series will update you about some of our work. In this first iteration, we are presenting a snapshot of our programs in the past two weeks.

Our legal director Adam Attia and Advocacy Projects Director Asiyah Jones conducted our first collaborative program with Falastin, a student-led project at University of Delaware. Adam Attia presented our Know Your Rights Workshop for the UD community; we also hosted Nathaniel Miller from Up Against the Law for a session on engagement with law enforcement agencies during protests.

National Muslim Voter Registration Day Outreach

September 6: National Muslim Voter Registration Day Outreach

Our new Vote for Justice program was launched in connection with the National Muslim Voter Registration Day in PA in partnership with MPower Change.

Our team members Zeynep, Sara, Fareba, Asiyah, and Ahmet engaged with our communities and registered community members to vote at Masjid Al Sabereen in Harrisburg, Islamic Community Center of Lancaster, Khair Community Center, Islamic Society of Greater Valley Forge, and Islamic Cultural Center of Willow Grove.

You can register to vote on our portal connected to the Department of State website in PA.


September 7: Know Your Rights Workshop with Philly Educators for Palestine

CAIR-Philadelphia’s legal director Adam Attia presented a workshop on key legal rights and challenges faced in educational settings for Philly Educators for Palestine. We engaged community members, teachers, and concerned citizens in this program. Request our Know Your Rights Workshop for your community!


Grounded Event in Philadelphia

September 7: Grounded Event in Philadelphia

CAIR-Philadelphia was proud to sponsor and participate in the new community space initiative Grounded’s launch event in Philadelphia. Our Advocacy Projects Director Asiyah Jones was part of an enriching panel discussion held at a uniquely welcoming and warm space curated by Grounded. Check out their next event Rise to Manhood in collaboration with the Save Institute.


September 9: Solidarity is the Political Version of Love Book Launch Panel

CAIR-Philadelphia Executive Director Ahmet Tekelioglu joined authors Rabbi Alissa Wise and Rebecca Vilkomerson at Kol Tzedek Synagogue to talk about organizing, Palestine advocacy and liberation movements together with other Philly area activists. Check out this timely book that chronicles a history and evolution of Jewish Voices for Peace.

September 10: Banner Drop with Pennsylvania Immigration and Citizenship Coalition (PICC)

Immigration justice is a key value that CAIR-Philadelphia is working towards in collaboration with our allies at Pennsylvania Immigration and Citizenship Coalition. Our team members joined our partners for a banner drop off calling for an end to inhumane practices by ICE and immigrant detention.


September 11: Know Your Rights Workshop with Lehigh Valley Palestine Coalition

As legal challenges facing Palestine advocates continue, our team is engaging more communities with legal and advocacy advice. On September 11, Executive Director Ahmet Tekelioglu and Legal Director Adam Attia delivered a workshop for the Lehigh Valley Palestine Coalition focused on key aspects of legal know-how and advocacy considerations in a lively session.
