In 2020, CAIR-Philadelphia did AMAZING work, and I will refer you to the summaries of the achievements by Jacob, Timothy, and Ahmet (our exceptional, dedicated and talented staff) that were published and emailed recently. There are still many hours left before midnight, time enough to make your final tax-deductible and zakat-eligible donation to allow CAIR-Philadelphia to continue its groundbreaking work on behalf of the American Muslim community of the Greater Delaware Valley.
Organizing for civic engagement, protecting the civil rights of community members, promoting understanding of Islam and the Muslim community, building interfaith coalitions for social justice: these are the foundations upon which we stand.
We look forward to continuing to serve you for many years to come. In order to achieve that intention, we require your continued support in the form of volunteer hours, prayers, and financial donations, especially in these difficult times.
Our first COVID casualty was our annual banquet, known nation-wide for its dramatic impact and artistic quality. Our annual banquet is the one time every year that we are able to get the CAIR family together to socialize and showcase the wonderful work we’ve done in the preceding year and, of course, ask for your financial support. This year, we held out hope for as long as we could, but ultimately, just days before the event, for the safety and health of our community we made the difficult decision to cancel the banquet. The same fate would befall our annual Interfaith Iftar and Muslim Capitol Day; Ramadan was also observed very differently in 2020. Finally, the entire Muslim world mourned the cancellation of the Hajj for the first time in more than 1400 years!
The difficulties that touched us all this year meant fewer of you were able to give, therefore our donations in 2020 were a fraction of past years. So, for the last time in 2020 and to open up 2021, we turn to you for help.
It is Allah’s Mercy and your generosity that has brought us this far. We again ask you to continue to give to sustain us through this cold and dark winter as we await the springtime and the dissemination of vaccines. May Allah take note of your zakat and help bring COVID-19, as well as the plague of prejudice that preceded it, to an end.
As President of CAIR-Philadelphia, I thank you for your past bountiful gifts, support, and prayers and look forward to working with you throughout 2021 for the benefit of the Muslim community and all the people of our great city.
