Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us a very beautiful prayer for the sick:
اللهم رب الناس، أذهب البأس، واشف، أنت الشافي لا شفاء إلا شفاؤك، شفاءً لا يغادر سقماً
Allahumma rabba an-nas, adh-hib al-ba’s,
wa-ishfi anta ash-shafi; la shifa’ illa shifa’uk, shifa’an la yughadiru saqama
“O Lord of the people! Remove the sickness and cure him/her.
You surely are the Healer; there is no recovery but through You.
Give him/her a full recovery that leaves no traces of sickness.”
(Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
Islam teaches us that each human being is precious, and that to destroy, or lose, a single life is akin to losing an entire universe.
In COVID-19, humankind is now faced with an unimaginable crisis, a global pandemic that threatens the fabric of life as we know it.
Throughout this emergency, and as long as we physically are able, the staff and communal leaders of CAIR-Philadelphia will continue to provide you with relevant information, both on the pandemic in general, but also specifically on the state of the American Muslim community in Philadelphia and its environs.
Although we urge all of you to isolate yourselves in your homes (“shelter in place”), and practice the newly defined art of “social distancing” (not closer than 6 feet from other human beings), the internet can be a literal life-saver and a community-managed communications web, connecting centers of Muslim life, even in the midst of this unfathomable catastrophe.
The following links will connect you with crucial information, both from within and outside the Muslim community. CAIR-Philadelphia is also preparing a series of internet-based educational forums and audio and video pod-casts that we believe you will find of great interest.
Although COVID-19 might be with us for some time, we will continue to pray for all of you and your loved ones and put our ultimate faith in The-One-Whose-Name-is-“The-Healer”.
