CAIR-Philadelphia today condemned disingenuous attacks targeting its banquet speakers and guest of honor Rep. Summer Lee. CAIR-Philadelphia Executive Director Dr. Ahmet Selim Tekelioglu said:
“It is disingenuous for the likes of Bhavini Patel, an elected official, and Dave McCormick to antagonize CAIR, Pennsylvania’s only Muslim civil rights group working around the clock to defend our community against Islamophobia and dehumanization. Media pieces that take our leaders and speakers’ comments out of context are being exploited by ill-intentioned circles. These attacks are not new to us, but we speak here to inform those who may fall victim to such hateful campaigns.
“Our banquet has 750 guests currently registered to join from across the state and we expect our list to only grow in response to these attacks. We are excited to hear from Congresswoman Summer Lee and other speakers where a diverse group of interfaith and non-profit leaders will join our community to celebrate the steadfastness of Muslim Pennsylvanians and CAIR-Philadelphia’s civil rights and advocacy work.”
