Holding up its banner from Independence Hall to Penn’s Landing, CAIR-Philadelphia took part in the Annual Philadelphia Islamic Heritage Festival on Saturday, June 14th. Joining dozens of other Muslim organizations in the parade, Muslims from around Philadelphia were able demonstrate their pride in Islamic heritage. Marching in front of the CAIR organization was the Jawala Scouts, a male youth Muslim Boy Scout organization.
At the end of the parade, CAIR stood with the other organizations in several pictures and handed out pamphlets about its organization. Different tables selling food, shirts, and jewelry were present at Penn’s Landing. People from different heritages and religions stopped by taking a look at the different tables and trying new foods. Women were intrigued by the clothes that were put on display by the Muslim women and were given the chance to learn about why Muslim women wear certain dresses. CAIR was given the opportunity as well to inform people about how CAIR fights for Muslim rights, as well as the rights of others who have faced discrimination.
