Jacob Bender, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations here in Philadelphia, attributes Mohamed’s arrest to fear. “CAIR specifically and the Muslim community in general see this as a glaring example of Islamphobia, xenophobia, and anti-Muslim hysteria which has been pushed on the public by any number of media outlets and so-called terrorism experts,” Bender says to City Paper. “We’re not surprised that this occurred, though it seems to have a happy ending with an invitation from the president for Ahmed to visit the White House.”
