CAIR-Philadelphia is working with CAIR-Chicago and CAIR-Michigan to help a Syrian family with young children who are seeking asylum in the United States. Like many who have fled that conflict, the family fears that if they are forced to return, they will face persecution and torture. While the United States has historically welcomed refugees, in recent years the Department of Homeland Security has treated them with extreme suspicion or worse. The family is now being detained in Pennsylvania. CAIR has connected them to immigration counsel, and we are investigating and responding to their claims of mistreatment by border agents when they arrived in the country.
