CAIR-PA staff meets with Homeland Security officers to discuss Hajj travel

This week, CAIR-PA staff met with Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection officers to discuss airport security and reentry concerns regarding international travel for the upcoming hajj season. The homeland security officers have asked CAIR-PA to disseminate information to hajj travelers on how to make the process easier for everyone. In a couple of weeks, CAIR-PA will release a hajj travel guide focusing on returning to the U.S. without hassle. It is crucial that all pilgrims/travelers know the rules of which items can be brought back (zam zam water, food, other items) and other basic security procedures.

CAIR-PA also offered advice and concerns to the officers regarding Muslim dress, sensitivities, and unique issues associated with hajj travel. Currently, Philadelphia International Airport does not have nude body scanner machines and the supervisory officers are very well versed in Muslim practices and hajj rituals. CAIR-PA is pleased to have this partnership with the Department of Homeland Security as it enables positive representation for the Muslim community with airport security officials.
