On Sunday, June 15, I was one of the speakers at an all-day Symposium at Masjidullah on the theme of “The Muslim American Community: Our Legacy and Our Destiny.”
The other speakers included Dr. Khalid Blankinship of Temple University, Prof. Mikal Nash of Essex University, Imam Muhammad Abdul Aleem, and Philadelphia State Rep. Ronald G. Waters. The morning session offered rarely-heard histories of African Muslim slaves in North America, while the afternoon session was a lively discussion about the paths to a secure Muslim presence in the United States. The official ribbon-cutting ceremony at Masjidullah took place on Thursday, June 19th and I was honored to have been asked to be one of the speakers.
