Urgent Call to Action: No to Restrictive Voting Bill

Dear CAIR-Philadelphia Community,

We are reaching out on an urgent request. There is an active amendment to be voted in PA House today that will harm full access to the ballot box.

Call Your PA House Rep Today!

“I have heard that an amendment that would require voters to show proof of identification every time they cast a ballot in person may come up for a House vote on Wednesday, amending SB 224, which would move up the 2024 Primary date.”

“It is deeply troubling to me that a bill designed with the noble goal of making it easier for Jewish Pennsylvanians to vote may become a vehicle to disenfranchise BIPOC voters, who have had their access to the ballot box severely limited for as long as they have been able to vote, by adding a Voter ID provision.”

“Adding voter ID provisions would dilute if not destroy altogether the spirit of this legislation, which was designed to ensure that all Pennsylvanians would be able to cast a ballot in person in the primaries. If it is going to be amended at all, the amendments should be in keeping with this spirit. For example, if the General Assembly were to add an early in-person voting period, it would expand access to the ballot for ALL Pennsylvanians every year, instead of making it easier for some and more difficult for others. If we had early voting for the 2024 election, we wouldn’t need to move the primary date.”

• Are you willing to vote “No” on the voter ID amendment today?

• Are you willing to reach out to House leadership to encourage them to not bring this bill with the harmful Voter ID amendment to a vote?

• And, if this amended bill that includes voter ID were to come to a vote, are you willing to vote “No”?
