CAIR-Philadelphia joins our colleagues at CAIR-California, CAIR-Florida and CAIR-National in condemning the unjust detention of British Muslim journalist and political commentator Sami Hamdi by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Mr. Hamdi — who had just spoken at a CAIR-Sacramento Valley event and was en route to CAIR-Florida — was detained at San Francisco International Airport after his visa was suddenly revoked. This deeply troubling action raises serious concerns about free speech, due process, and the targeting of Muslim voices critical of U.S. foreign policy.

As CAIR stated “Abducting a prominent British Muslim journalist and political commentator on a speaking tour because he dared to criticize the Israeli government is a blatant affront to free speech.”
We stand in full solidarity with Sami Hamdi, and with CAIR-California’s legal team, which has filed a habeas petition and emergency restraining order to prevent his transfer or deportation.

This case is not only about one man — it’s about whether Muslims and people of conscience can speak freely in America without fear of retaliation.

In solidarity,
CAIR-Philadelphia
