(PHILADELPHIA, PA, 2/1/2024) – The Philadelphia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Philadelphia) today announced that it is joining a coalition of faith leaders, artists, and activists on the “Pilgrimage for Peace” to demand a ceasefire in Gaza.
From February 14 to February 21, pilgrimage participants will march from Independence Hall in Philadelphia to the White House in Washington, D.C., to urge President Biden call for a ceasefire.

Organizers of the pilgrimage stated: “We urge President Biden and Congress to halt weapons funding to Israel and, instead, channel efforts towards increasing humanitarian aid to Palestine. It is our collective responsibility to advocate for a peaceful resolution and uphold the principles of justice and compassion.”
Partnering Organizations Include:
Faith for Black Lives, National Council of Churches of Christ USA, Rabbis for Ceasefire, Hindus for Human Rights, The Pennsylvania Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Philadelphia), Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, Black Church Center for Justice and Equality, Until Freedom, Kairos Center, Freedom Church of the Poor and more.
In a statement, CAIR-Philadelphia Executive Director Ahmet Tekelioglu said:
“We urge community members of all faiths and background to join in this effort to bring peace and justice to the people of the Middle East. For too long, our nation has contributed to the continuation of the conflict, instead of taking measures – such as recognizing the humanity of the Palestinian people – that would bring it to an end.”
CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
