(PHILADELPHIA, PA, 10/2/2026) – The Philadelphia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Philadelphia), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned alleged neo-Nazi hate targeting Degel Israel Congregation in Lancaster Township.
A suspect reportedly posted derogatory and antisemitic signs, including a Nazi “SS” symbol, on the synagogue’s property. He also allegedly gestured a handgun with his fingers toward a congregant while threatening them.
In a statement, CAIR-Philadelphia Executive Director Ahmet Tekelioglu said:
“We stand in solidarity with our Jewish neighbors across Pennsylvania. Hate, antisemitism, and intimidation directed at any place of worship have no place in our communities. A bigoted attack on one faith community’s peace and security is an attack on the rights and safety of all believers. We welcome the law enforcement investigation into these hateful acts and call on local leaders to reject all forms of bigotry.”
CAIR-Philadelphia urges anyone with information regarding this or other bias-motivated incidents to contact local police.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
