CAIR-Philadelphia Welcomes Passage of ICE OUT Legislation, Applauds Councilmembers Landau and Brooks, Community Organizations

(PHILADELPHIA, PA, 4/23/2026) – The Philadelphia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Philadelphia) today welcomed the passage of the ICE OUT legislation by the Philadelphia City Council, calling it an important step toward protecting immigrant communities and advancing dignity and due process for all residents of the city.

CAIR-Philadelphia commended Councilmembers Rue Landau and Kendra Brooks for their leadership in introducing the legislation in partnership with local immigration advocates and community stakeholders. Their efforts reflect a continued commitment to ensuring that Philadelphia remains a welcoming city for all, regardless of immigration status.

“Today’s passage sends a clear message that Philadelphia stands on the side of justice, fairness, and human dignity,” said CAIR-Philadelphia Executive Director Ahmet Tekelioglu. “We are grateful to Councilmembers Landau and Brooks for their principled leadership and for working closely with advocates to move this legislation forward.”

Tekelioglu testified before City Council last week in strong support of the ICE OUT legislation, emphasizing the urgent need for policies that safeguard vulnerable communities and uphold civil rights protections. His testimony underscored the importance of building trust between immigrant communities and local institutions, particularly at a time when many families face heightened uncertainty.
