(PHILADELPHIA, PA, 11/15/07) – The Pennsylvania chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-PA) recently presented a workshop, called “Introduction to Islam and Islamophobia,” to the Interfaith Dialog Group at Shir Ami Synagogue in Newtown. Some 30 adults and students attended the workshop, which was presented by CAIR-PA Board Chair Iftekhar Hussain.
The Interfaith Dialog Group, which organized the presentation, is dedicated to fostering a better understanding and appreciation of the various faiths in the community.
The question and answer session with the participants lasted more than two hours.
“It was very enlightening and very engaging, Iftekhar was a welcome voice of reason. People talked about taking his 10-part course on Islam and Muslims in the future,” said Ivy Pearlstein, the facilitator of the event and a Shir Ami congregant.
