Join the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in urging Congress to support Senator Cory Booker and Representative Andre Carson’s resolution recognizing January as “Muslim-American Heritage Month.”
The resolution was re-introduced on January 23 2025 and co-sponsored by leading Democratic U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Tim Kaine (D-VA), Andy Kim (D-NJ), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Chris Murphy (D-CT), Patty Murray (D-WA), Alex Padilla (D-CA), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and Peter Welch (D-VT).
Also, U.S House Representatives , Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Ilhan Omar(D-MN), Lateefah Simon (D-CA)
The resolution recognizes the importance of American Muslim figures, including El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, Imam Warith Deen Mohamed, Muhammad Ali, and Ibtihaj Muhammad. It also notes American Muslims’ contributions to American society as business owners, entrepreneurs, healthcare professionals, humanitarians, scientists, and students. Furthermore, with roots in at least 77 different countries and identifying racially as White, Black, Arab, and Asian, Muslim Americans are an extremely diverse population. The current population of Muslims living in the United States is estimated at over 3,450,000 individuals. Over 4,500 Muslims serve on active duty, and over 2,300 Muslims serve as selected reserve personnel in the Armed Forces. The Muslim population has been growing in the United States, and today’s Muslim-American population is a tapestry of ethnic, racial, linguistic, social, and economic groups.
The resolution was first introduced two years ago in the U.S. House of Representatives by Representative Karen Bass (D-CA) and in the Senate by Senator Booker.
The congressional “Muslim-American Heritage Month” resolution is in part based on Representative Judy Chu’s (D-CA) 2018 and 2019 resolutions “Recognizing American Muslims’ history and contributions to our Nation.”
