CAIR-Pittsburgh Supports Probe of Complaints Alleging Bias, Misconduct by Judge Anthony Mariani

(PITTSBURGH, PA, 7/6/2022) – The Pittsburgh chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Pittsburgh), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today expressed support for an investigation of complaints alleging instances of bias and misconduct by Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Anthony Mariani.

The Abolitionist Law Center (ALC), a local legal rights group filed 62 complaints against Judge Mariani. The alleged incidents were filed with the state Judicial Conduct Board. ALC court watchers reportedly observed Judge Mariani commenting on the physiques of African-American men and allegedly telling one defendant his body was a “weapon.” Judge Mariani also allegedly disregarded those with disorders such as bipolar and PTSD, commenting that “everyone’s bipolar” and “everyone claims to have PTSD now,” according to the complaint.
