CAIR-Pittsburgh Supports \u2018No War Crimes on Our Dime\u2019 Ballot Measure\n<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

(PITTSBURGH, PA, 8\/12\/2024)<\/strong> \u2013 The Pittsburgh chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Pittsburgh), a chapter of the nation\u2019s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today expressed support for the “No War Crimes on Our Dime” campaign,<\/a> a proposed ballot measure that would prohibit the city from doing business with entities having ties to the far-right Israeli government.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

That ballot measure would ask voters whether the city\u2019s Home Rule Charter should include a provision \u201cprohibiting the investment or allocation of public funds, including tax exemptions, to entities that conduct business operations with or in the state of Israel unless and until Israel ends its military action in Gaza, fully allows humanitarian assistance to reach the people of Gaza, and grants equal rights to every person living in the territories under Israeli control.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a statement, <\/span>CAIR-Pittsburgh Executive Director Christine Mohamed<\/b><\/span> <\/span>said:<\/p>\n

“We stand in firm support of this referendum as a necessary step in ensuring that our public funds do not contribute to or support actions that undermine human rights. This is not about targeting any specific group but is instead about upholding our commitment to justice and humanitarian principles. By holding our city contracts to these standards, we reinforce our dedication to ethical governance and the well-being of all communities, ensuring that our resources are aligned with our values.”<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n
