Update on Vandalism at Islamic Society of Delaware

A Message from ISD President Mahamad Allimulla
(from ISDOnline President’s Corner):

Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatu,

Dear Community Members,

I would like to keep you informed on the follow-up activities to the tragic event that took place between 12 midnight and 4:30 AM on Friday (10/25/13). Alhamdulillah our administration has been constantly in touch with the local, state and federal authorities. They have assured us that this incident is being investigated with utmost priority.

While this incident is of major concern to all of us, the overwhelming support we have received from our neighbors, inter faith groups and other social and religious organizations are a source of inspiration. We are also thankful for the encouraging words of support from Governor Jack Markell, County Executive Tom Gordon and the offices of Senator Chris Coons and Congressman John Carney.

While this is a one-off incident, we have been advised that the seriousness of the event warrants a largely collaborative campaign to fight the growing islamophobia in our society.

As a result a number of follow-up events have been planned.

  • CAIR-PA along with ISD will hold a news conference at the mosque on Monday, 10/28/13 at Noon
  • A Solidarity event is being organized by the interfaith groups at our center on Monday 10/28/13 at 7 PM.

Rest assured we are very confident to say that our campus is safe and secure. We have already installed additional lights and working on adding additional security cameras at the driveway of our entrance.

Ma Assalaama,

Mahamed Allimulla
President – Islamic Society of Delaware
