Lessons from July 4th

Happy Independence Day!

With all the festivities in Philadelphia on Independence Day, we can’t lose track of the importance of this holiday.

We celebrate the drafting of the Declaration of Independence, a document that radically changed the course of history. A symbol that a group of individuals can stand up against oppressive policies and demand their civil rights.

America has come a long way to actualize the most commonly known part of the declaration, “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”. We are certain, and have much hope that we will continue to view each other as human beings with equal rights. July 4th is a reminder of our constant struggle to maintain civil rights and liberties – to uphold freedom.
