Community News: Qur’an Burning Averted

A disturbed individual contacted the office last week and informed us of his intent to set fire to a copy of the Holy Qur’an across the street from the Islamic Center of Lancaster in protest of the Islamic faith. We were able to respond quickly by notifying local police. We also asked media not to cover the attempted burning so as to not give the man the attention he wanted. Lancaster City Police ensured us that any attempted burning is a violation of city ordinances and would be dealt with as a crime. The individual did not show up and no incident occurred.

CAIR-Philadelphia would like to thank Lancaster City Police for their swift response, local Harrisburg and Lancaster media (WGAL) and officials from the Islamic Center of Lancaster.
