Lancaster County Jewish leaders agree Jerusalem is Israel’s capital, say timing of Trump’s declaration is bad

President Donald Trump’s decision Wednesday to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel makes sense to local Jewish leaders — even if the timing makes them uneasy.

And while the local Islamic community chose not to address the issue, a member of the Philadelphia chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations said Trump’s pronouncement jeopardizes the Middle East peace process.

Ahmet Selim Tekelioglu, director of outreach and education for the Philadelphia chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations, said Trump’s decision jeopardizes the peace process.

“This makes a peace solution all the more problematic,” Tekelioglu said.
