Their home is the United States, not their country of origin – and they want to see it prosper, said Hamid Housni, founder of the Lebanon Valley Mosque. Many of the children of immigrants have never even experienced another country.

There are many members of the Muslim immigrant community who are highly educated and came to the United States 30 or more years ago, before Americans became apprehensive about terrorism, said Jacob Bender, executive director of the Philadelphia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

“All of a sudden, their loyalty is being questioned and their (commitment) to democracy is being questioned. And it’s precisely for those reasons that they came to America – because they wanted to live in a democratic society,” Bender said. Continue reading…
